April 6, 2026: The Day Before WW III

is quiet and normal here in Rock Hill, SC. The weather is good and people are enjoying spring.

“We are going to bring them back to the stone ages where they belong” is the sentence from President Trump’s April 1 address to the nation about Operation Epic Fury that sticks in my mind. I saw him say that in real time and read the transcript on the AP news site.

His use of “bring” suggests that we, too, are in the stone ages. Was there more than one stone age? It is a curious statement embedded in a speech that promised utter destruction of a country that hates its dictatorial military/religious rule but for their increasing oblique defense of it as Trump uses my tax dollars to destroy military and civilian targets.

Were I Iranian, I would despise my rulers, too, yet I would likely come despise the destroyers of my country more.

No one around me seems upset. My son got bite by a dog, my granddaughter is closing on a home, and my daughter is working a new job in a casino. My wife maintains her routine. The Gamecocks lost to UCLA.

However, I am very uneasy, disturbed. Last night Trump posted on social media–his new “state department”–a profane statement that reads in part “Open up the Fuckin’ Strait, you crazy bastards.” He promises the begin utter destruction tomorrow, a Tuesday.

I have been e-mailing Senators Graham and Scot and Congressman Norman, my representatives, asking them to moderate Trump and to come to a location near me so that I can listen to their defensive of the Iranian War. I get no response at all or nonsensical comments.

I have photographed yet another No Kings protest in Rock Hill. I go out of my way to bring up the war to those around me but get no response. The crowds downtown assure me that I am not plumb crazy. Our President is and by extension so are the silent majority of us.

My conclusion is that most Americans, certainly the supporters of President Trump, do not care. I wish I did not care so much. My hope is that gas and food prices soar enough to give pause to those who seem so unfazed and indifferent. If they can not afford to fill up their gas guzzlers and find the price of meat too expensive, they might begin to notice Trump’s outrageous behavior.

I am thoroughly ashamed to be an American on this thirty-six day of Operation Epic Fury which promises to become WW III.
